The populati0n of the world is 7 billion (agreed they don't all swing a racquet!) - not many people will be able to claim they have been in the best 300 of anything world-wise - Emily can
Mr Cooper your achievements havent quite reached such heights (to be frank they'll have been knee high to a grasshopper - a teeny tiny one at that!) but I'm sure we 'd all like to award you the No.1 spot for the saddest little deluded a-hole to post on here.
It's notoriety of sorts ...a legend in your own ameobic sized myopic mind!
Keep taking the pills!..... and do the world a favour and get out less! |

Even if that's true that she is "never going to make a living out of it", many people do jobs for little money because they love to do it.
I, for example, work 14 hour days as a journalist for peanuts - but I don't mind and don't care that I won't be polishing a Merc any time soon. Not everyone relies on money for an illusion of contentment... |

| can see all sides of this agrument. but if the lta dont fund her then what bussiness is it of anyone to say what she does with her time? now, by all means pick up on lta funded players that for whatever reason, other than injury, are not performing, in some cases not even playing, and bring them and that system to account, but leave the self funded deluded ones to their own devices! |

| She makes enough money to keep her going. No she doesn't have loads of surplus funds but enough so she can still play and she loves playing. She certainly isn't deluded about where she's at with her game. |

The thing with Michael Cooper is that I don't think its personal against Emily
I cannot recall one single post that has been positive to anybody at all on here - player or poster
Used to think he was saying things with a smile on his face or a twinkle in his eye if you know what I mean
But I don't think so the more I read
I have no problem with negative comments on here when they are worded better
If Emily were to read this thread i would just say don't take it personal as Micahel Cooper has said worse things about others on here - that is what he does - simple as that
I agree with od - anybody self funded can do whateever they want in any sport - not just tennis
And those who are funded do have to justify it at some stage for sure |

Well said, Jemma
Emily has had to cope with some very unfortunate injuries over the years which would have caused weaker souls to throw in the towel and which almost certainly have kept her CHs lower than they would otherwise have been.
Having the courage to keep trying gets my approval.
It's a pity she couldn't build on that first set...
Hope she can go deep in the dubs now, and next week in Astana
REVISED TARGET: BETTER THAN 1985! |

I have to agree that Mr Michael Cooper has what I can only describe as a way with words but not wishing to be another one who stirs it up sometimes the indignation makes me smile because i have to say that the things that are said by parents at tennis tournaments are very often quite cruel and thoughtless. When it is a victim everyone approves of then everyone is happy to wade in with their opinion and could not give a monkey's whether it is upsetting for the parent or the child to hear and the majority are guilty of wearing very thick rose tinted lenses about their own children and their own behaviour. i am not sure that it is constructive to keep slating certain people. Where do we stop - it is her life and she cannot be preventing anyone else from playing because the one thing we have to agree about tennis is that it is competitive enough that if she was so bad she wouldn't even be able to play - live and let live. I openly admit this general cattiness which pervades tournaments is something I am a bit sensitive about having been on the receiving end and having seen how long it stays with kids once they stop playing.
To Mr Cooper, as the mother of a child who loved tennis and can no longer play and as someone who has just lost their business after 21 years, you sound as though your life is not so bad, successful high earning businessman and I think father of four girls, so why not appreciate your good fortune and accept people won't share your views if people are enjoying what they are doing let them do it without trying to make people always feel so c r a p about themselves.
Goodness that rattled my cage sorry folks will go back to my despressed stupour and butt out for the rest of the year.
Enjoy |

| Hear Hear!!! TM very well put and I have witnessed some awful things from responsible parents and coaches over the years. But MC is allowed to express his opinion about Em, maybe not in the words he used though. Emily still has the passion for the sport to compete and good for her and i wish her well, she has had injuries which take time to heal. |

I applaud Emily for going through the mill and coming out of it still with the drive to compete. Regardless of results, she has the drive and determination to succeed no matter what.

I have to admitt, I have been really gunning for Emily...
However I feel she is trying to escape reality in life hiding behind playing tennis. Does she not need to start a career that can give her security in life rather than constantly being on the edge. She is not going to be able to make a financial career out of tennis and the longer she goes on with it, the worse she is going to feel when she is older.. Maybe I should have stopped a few years and started a new career. Tennis players carry on playing because they are scared of starting something else from the bottom or becoming a tennis coach. |
