Katie was the in form player during this summer’s grass court season. Having battled through qualifying at the WTA Eastbourne event, she reached the last 16 beating top 100 players Jill Craybas and Vasilisa Bardina en route. Katie went on to win her first ever main draw match at Wimbledon and reached a career high ranking of 121 in July. She finished the year as British No. 1.
On hearing that she’d won the award Katie said: “I’m really surprised to win the award. 2007 was a good year but the great thing is that I know I can achieve more in 2008 so cant wait for the season to start.”
Female Junior Player of the Year: Anna Fitzpatrick
Anna played just one junior event in 2007, Junior Wimbledon, and had a superb run reaching the last four and captured the attention of the British public.
Based at the Monte Carlo Tennis Academy, Anna has spent the majority of the year playing $10,000 and $25,000 events reaching the final in Sunderland and semi-finals in Nottingham and Calgary, achieving a career high ranking of 368 along the way.
Doubles has also been a success for the Yorkshire teenager, teaming up with Serbian Ana Veselinovic to win a title in Calgary and reach the final of $25,000 tournaments in Nottingham and Turkey.
