Laura Robson recorded one of the best tournament victories of her life over the weekend as she lifted the girls’ 14 and under singles trophy at the Eddie Herr International Junior Tennis Championships in America. The prestigious junior tournament, which is played in Bradenton, Florida, includes both boys’ and girls’ events in the 12’s, 14’s, 16’s and 18’s age groups.
Robson, who is coached by Olga Morozova, secured the title by beating American Monica Puig 6-0 4-6 6-0 in the final. This latest edition to the 13-year-old’s trophy cabinet will sit next to the 12 and under singles title that she won in Bradenton last year. Past winners at the Eddie Herr International include Maria Sharapova, Jelena Jankovic and Ana Ivanovic; while on the boys’ side Andy Roddick, David Nalbandian and Ivan Ljubicic have all been successful in years gone by. Nigel Sears, Great Britain Fed Cup Coach, said: "This is an extrememly prestigious tournament that has had some fantastic former winners. The great thing for Laura is that she has won with a 'senior game' which bodes extremely well for the future."
